Aims

Students in Learning for Life and Work will learn to value themselves as the important individuals they are. They will develop the skills and knowledge to cope with the world of work and also have the opportunity to enhance their understanding of our whole school values of celebrating diversity and inclusion. Students will learn through the use of literacy, ICT and active participation in the classroom.

KS3

Learning for Life and Work is taught through three key modules in Key Stage 3; Employability, Citizenship and Personal Development.

In Citizenship topics include Cultural Diversity and Inclusion in year 8. Human Rights and Social Responsibility in year 9 and Democracy, Justice and Participation in year 10.

As part of Employability students in year 8 explore the types of jobs available in our economy, the impact of globalisation and the advancement in new technology on the workplace. For year 9’s they will study the importance of local business’ and small to medium employers as well as the global trading. Within year 10 there is a focus on GCSE option’s where students explore career management and future job opportunities.

Personal Development in year 8 looks at themes such as social and emotional well-being and managing risks. In year 9 we look at morals, beliefs and values as well as relationships and sexuality whilst in year 10 topics include the impact of drugs and alcohol.

KS4

LLW is an option for study at GCSE in which Employability, Citizenship and Personal Development are explored in greater depth. The course is broken down into 3 assessments and one piece of controlled assessment, an investigative approach to a relevant topic.
