Aims

At St Joseph’s College PE department, we aim to lead a department which embraces diversity, promotes participation and inspires all pupils to lead healthy active lifestyles, whilst ensuring every pupil reaches their full academic and physical potential. We endeavour to provide high quality teaching and learning through a well-balanced curricular and extra-curricular activity programme.

KS3

3 periods of PE per week.

Content Assessment Weighting

Component 1:

Factors Underpinning Health and Performance External written examination

1 hour 15 minutes 25%

Component 2:

Developing Performance External written examination

1 hour 15 minutes 25%

Component 3:

Individual Performances in Physical Activities and Sports Controlled assessment

(Students perform three physical activities or sports) 50%

Post-16

All Post -16 pupils have 2 periods of practical PE per week.

Post 16 BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Sport

Our pupils study the Pearson Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Sport

Course breakdown

This is a vocational course which allows level 3 students to develop their practical knowledge, skills and understanding they need to prepare for a career in sport. It consists of 7 controlled assessment units carried out over the 2 years of study.
